My name is David Johns and I have witnessed first hand the importance of nutrition and exercise in promoting an overall healthy lifestyle. Weighing almost 290lbs at the age of 17 and not able to keep up with friends who were much more fit and active than me, I decided to make a change and turn things around in my life. I lost 120lbs with the right balance of nutrition and fitness and a reinvented attitude. I went from a 44” waist to earning the title of Mr. Teen Utah in 2003. I went on to win 7 natural bodybuilding titles before the age of 20. I also worked as a trainer in a gym for a year and realized that clients weren’t getting the results I knew they were capable of because of a lack of specific nutritional knowledge. I made the move to Total Health and Fitness which teaches a three-fold program that encompasses nutrition, fitness and supplements and have been educating clients on HOW AND WHY they need to eat and exercise to reach their goals. I have met with over 1,000 people with goals ranging from losing 100lb of fat weight to gaining muscle, to winning Olympic gold. My clients come in all shapes and sizes! I LOVE what I do because I make lives better each day in THE BEST facility in the state! I encourage anyone with a fitness/wellness goal to tour our facility and come in for a free introduction to see what a customized nutrition and fitness program can do for changing your life.

I have been in the Health and Fitness industry for over 20 years! Time flies when you enjoy what you do. I live what I teach and love helping people find their best overall health and fitness within their lifestyles. Working at Total Health and Fitness allows me the opportunity to work with people of all backgrounds and challenges and to show them that health and fitness is not difficult and it doesn’t need to hurt! The most important part of any health and fitness goal is accountability. It’s important to get a customized nutrition and exercise plan that addresses the individual’s needs and is sustainable for their lifestyle. And meeting with me each week helps the client learn what works best for their goals and how to sustain those goals for life.
Initially, I began my career in the Sports Medicine field, conditioning athletes and treating sports injuries but soon realized I wanted to help individuals of all fitness levels and of all ages. It’s so satisfying to find activities that we enjoy and use them to help us achieve goal(s).
As a personal example, I enjoy hiking, dancing, cleaning my house, walking my dog, working in the yard and other non-traditional exercise activities to stay in cardiovascular shape! As we age through the middle years, bone loss and increases in body fat occur, slowing down our metabolism and setting us up for disease later in life, but this can be avoided with the right nutrition and fun weight training exercises to slow down this aging process! .
In my spare time, I love traveling and finding creative ways to get nutritional and exercise needs in while doing so. It can be done!

I have always had a passion for health and fitness and received a bachelor’s degree from BYU in Exercise and Wellness, and my CPT from NASM. After college I chose to pursue my business interest and open up a family restaurant, O’ Crowley Irish Tacos in Utah County. I lived a very busy lifestyle and didn’t really pay attention to my own personal fitness. I struggled with my health and weight, even though I knew better. I finally decided to get serious and apply my knowledge of nutrition and exercise for my own body transformation. In about 10 months I went from 260 lbs. and 24% body fat, to 195 lbs. and 6% body fat. I enjoyed every minute of my transformation and it deepened my desire to help others and get back into the fitness industry. I am loving this new lifestyle and working as a consultant at Total Health and Fitness. Going through this process has deepened my desire to help others achieve healthy lifestyles and get great results!

After chronically under-eating, and only eating all of the ‘wrong’ things throughout my teenage and young adult years, I very suddenly developed several imbalances and negative symptoms that no doctor could pinpoint. I suffered silently for 2 years with extreme fatigue, brain fog, migraines, depression, food intolerances, vitamin and mineral deficiencies, and an underactive thyroid, adrenal glands, and reproductive system. Those 2 years included several trips to different medical specialists, MRI tests, sleep studies, acupuncture, allergy tests, chiropractic care, and more. I continually left with the answer of: “Everything looks great! No concerns”. I eventually met with a holistic practitioner who thought to look into my diet and the way I was treating my body. She taught me to eat and take care of my body properly. After regaining my health back, getting off all medications, and feeling sharp and energetic again, I gained a passion for human nutrition.
I graduated from Utah State University in Nutrition, Dietetics, and Food Science and became a Registered Dietitian in 2021. I know what it feels like to not know HOW to properly fuel your body, and I know first-hand how miserable the ‘mystery symptoms’ can FEEL. I want to help as many people as possible feel their absolute best by learning how to properly care for their health. I love helping people realize that many times their negative symptoms and disorders are just a result of their eating habits, it’s not always as complicated as you may think it is.
If I’m not at the gym, I’m in the mountains with my husband and Golden Retriever, at a concert, hiking, trying new restaurants, or BBQ-ing with my family.
Taking care of yourself should be a priority, and I’m excited to help you learn how to do that so you can live your happiest, healthiest life possible.

My passion for health and fitness grew out of my own journey of learning how to truly support my body rather than constantly trying to control it.
For many years, I struggled with an eating disorder and believed that the key to results was pushing harder, eating less, and being more disciplined. Like many people, I thought more cardio, stricter diets, and more effort would lead to better outcomes. Over time, I learned that the body actually performs best when it is properly fueled, well-recovered, and trained with intention.
Rebuilding a healthy relationship with food, exercise, and my body completely changed my perspective on health. It taught me that sustainable results don’t come from extremes—they come from consistency with the fundamentals: strength training, proper nutrition, rest, and learning to listen to your body.
Alongside my work in fitness and nutrition, I’ve also studied integrative and holistic health approaches that focus on supporting the body as a whole. I believe that when we address factors like stress, recovery, digestion, and lifestyle habits, the body is able to function and perform at a much higher level. My goal is to help clients not only look stronger, but feel more balanced, energized, and connected to their bodies.
As a Personal Trainer and Nutrition Consultant at Total Health and Fitness, I work with clients of all experience levels to build strength, improve body composition, and create sustainable habits that support long-term health. I combine structured training, practical nutrition guidance, and a balanced mindset to help clients reach their goals
.
Outside of the gym, I LOVE exploring the outdoors, planning things with my friends and playing with my son Brooks!
Helping people reconnect with their bodies and discover what they’re capable of is the most rewarding part of what I do!

Back in 2020, I was unhappy with my eating habits, how I felt, and how I looked. I decided to get serious about building better habits, and it completely changed my life. I discovered how to reach my goals by eating a balanced diet while still enjoying “fun foods” without restriction.
Now I’m passionate about helping others learn the truth about health and fitness, not just what current trends are promoting. For several years, I’ve worked with individuals to improve their nutrition and develop workout plans tailored to their specific goals.
I’m certified as a Personal Trainer through ISSA, a PN1-certified Nutrition Coach, and I’m currently studying at Utah State University to become a Registered Dietitian (RDN). I’ve also worked with USU, WSU, and BYU athletics in athlete nutrition.
In my free time, you can find me playing pickleball, watching a good show, making sourdough bread, or spending time with my family.
Come work with me to build a sustainable lifestyle that helps you become stronger, healthier, and happier!
